need a generator...?

The site has now been running for a year, averaging 1000 unique hits per month and continues to receive a substantial amount of interest from expatriates in Thailand... thanks guys..!

To date, I have offered advice and continue to advise many of you with questions related to the purchase, installation and commissioning of generators and automatic transfer switch (changeover) panels for your homes and businesses in Thailand.

Of the many enquiries received, the largest request by far, is for standby power to meet the electrical needs of mid-sized homes with varied electrical applainces and motors in the event of a power outage or sustained brownout (generators in the 15 to 30Kva range generally).

Until now I have passed all generator purchase requests to a Kipor distributor in Bangkok. I came to this decision after meeting with many of the major generator distributors in Bangkok. I was surprised at the general lack of quality and premium prices charged for generators primarily from China, as for Western imports... the phrase 'daylight robbery' springs to mind.

Kipor generators are produced in China to EU standards, they represent neither the best, nor the worst generators available in Thailand, but are priced (I thought) at a level which afforded expats a good deal. It has become increasingly clear to me however, that all is not well with Kipor management and I am not satisfied with their after sales support. My previous habit of referring all generator purchase enquiries to Kipor will end immediately...

It may seem counter-intuitive, but after making exhaustive enquiries, it has become clear that I will be able to offer quality generators, at a competetive price by importing sets from Europe to Thailand (even with the additional charge for shipping, insurance and import duties). Anybody doubting this claim should give Patco (one of the largest generator distributors in Bangkok), Namsang or OAS a call and ask for a comparative quote for generators and switch panels...

I will be adding a few links to this page over the next couple of weeks, to show examples of the type of generators that will become available via this site. The prices will be inclusive of shipping, import duty, freight handling etc, but will not include transportation to final destination, installation, cabling, commissioning or the manufacture and installation of an automatic transfer switch panel.

For those considering the purchase and installation of a standby generator, I would encourage you to read through this site, it is full of information to educate and inform on the importance of correctly sizing a generator. The old adage 'you get what you pay for' has particular resonance when it comes to the purchase of a generator and automatic transfer switch panels.
